Smoke Alarm Regulations

As many of you may have read, there has been a new smoke and carbon monoxide alarm law passed in Parliament and landlords have been given until 1st October 2015 to comply.

The law requires that all tenanted properties have smoke alarms fitted on each floor of the property where there is a room used wholly or partly as living accommodation. There is also a requirement to put a carbon monoxide alarm in any room where a solid fuel is burnt.

Whilst we welcome the aims of this regulation, the time given to comply is very limited. We urge any landlords to get in touch with your tenants and ask them to confirm whether there are working smoke alarms on every floor and carbon monoxide alarms where appropriate.
